overlooks, where

over and get out
of their car and just
relax for a few minutes
and enjoy really spectacular views
of the Virginia Piedmont to the
east and, obviously, the Shenandoah Valley to the west. But I like
to tell people that Shenandoah
National Park is a lot more than
just the Skyline Drive. We have
500 miles of hiking and equestrian trails."
Donna Fargo. Donna Fargo grew up as Yvonne Vaughan
during the 1950s at her
hometown of Mount Airy,
North Carolina. The singer
hit the charts with big hits
like "The Happiest Girl in
the Whole U.S.A." and "Funny Face" in the early 1970s.
Now retired from the music business, Fargo focuses on writing poems,
greeting cards and books. She has lived
at Nashville, Tennessee since 1972.
Where do you like to go?
"O'Dell's Sandwich Shop (in Mount
Airy) is my favorite place for a hot
dog in the whole U.S.A. ... And I
love the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's
just beautiful."
Bob Timberlake. One of the
most beloved painters of scenes sharing
mountain landscapes, Bob Timberlake
is a man at home in Lexington, North
Carolina. Yet, at 79, he can be found,
often, at Blowing Rock, North Carolina, where he partners with Chetola
Resort to promote his art. Timberlake
and his wife of 59 years, Kay, also
have a second home at Blowing Rock.
Where do you like to go?
"Blowing Rock has always been
a favorite place of ours. I love the
mountains. I love snow. I love trout
fishing and all the things about that
... We gravitated towards selling off
our beach house and everything
else and settling into Blowing Rock,
which is where we want to be."
