Along the way, bands hit the
stage every afternoon for four days,
July 4-7, at the Catawba Meadows
Park of Burke County, North Carolina, for the Red White and Bluegrass Festival where you'll also
find contests in frog jumping and

You can also celebrate the Fourth
of July at Alderson, West Virginia,
June 29 to July 5, with a parade, flea
market, river races, field day, cornhole tournament and fireworks.
In North Carolina, the Grandfather Mountain Highland
Games highlights Scottish heritage

later, Durbin Days Heritage Festival features a carnival, bingo, music, hay-bale throwing and a Fireman's Parade in tiny Durbin, West

Spruce Pine hosts the BBQ and
Bluegrass Festival in North Carolina on July 13-14 with two days of

Go camping, ride a bike or enjoy
morning yoga at the Red Wing
Roots Music Festival of Natural
Chimneys in Mount Solon, Virginia,
on July 13-15. Discover the Gatlinburg Craftsmen's Fair in Tennessee on July 13-22 (craftsmenfair.com).
And, in Georgia, you can slip into
Meeks Park at Blairsville to see a juried show with craftsmen and artists

Hit the lakeside beach of Virginia's Hungry Mother State Park, near

Look for the Georgia Mountain Moonshine Cruize-In, July

Then go "Be a Pepper" at the annual Dr Pepper Rural Retreat

Along the Blue Ridge Parkway,
perk up your ears for one of the biggest musical parties of the year at
FloydFest, near Milepost 170.5, in
Patrick County, Virginia. This year's

The Grainger County Tomato Festival celebrates agricultural
history in Tennessee with music,
food and the annual "Tomato Wars"

The long-running Virginia
Highlands Festival in Abingdon,
on July 27-Aug. 5, mixes antiques
