"Habitual Hiker." An awardwinning author, his 20 books

"50 Hikes in West Virginia."
Paraphrasing an American
humorist, Adkins lives by the
motto, "I never met a trail I
didn't like."

"Are the Mountains Closed On Sunday?"
I recently bought two copies of the November/Decemer 2017 issue of Blue Ridge Country, which I gave to my two sons for Christmas (along with the subscription for each).
I bought a copy of the first issue, back
in 1988, and immediately ordered a subscription. In my letter for that order, I told
the story of my small granddaughter who
wanted to go to the mountains, but asked
me, "Are the mountains closed today?"
Editor Kurt Rheinheimer wrote me at that
time and asked permission to use the story
in the magazine, which appeared on the
inside front cover of the second edition of your great magazine.
