Q: How many different
train excursions do you
have? How many trains
are in your fleet?
We operate a total of six trains from
three different depots. When you
combine all rail equipment, we operate seven diesel locomotives, more
than two dozen passenger cars, and
we (proudly!) operate six live steam
locomotives. Steam is headquartered
in Cass and Durbin, while historic
diesel locomotives operate in Elkins.
We operate the New Tygart Flyer,
the Cheat Mountain Salamander,
and Mountain Explorer Dinner
trains in Elkins. In nearby Durbin,
we operate the Durbin Rocket, and
sponsored content
at the World-Famous Cass Scenic
Railroad, we operate trains to Whittaker Station and Bald Knob. For

Q: When do your trains
run? Months of the year,
year-round?
Our trains operate 10 months out of
the year between our three historic
depots of Elkins, Cass and Durbin.
Excursion trains typically start in
late March and operate through midDecember. We're excited to expand
this schedule in 2019 to cater to ski
travelers in the November-December
season and look forward to growing

our winter tourist business throughout the rest of the winter months.
Q: What kind of trips are
offered?
We offer both day and overnight
trips, and partner with neighboring
hotels for our guests to stay, with
other attractions located within
immediate walking distance of our
train stations. For instance, guests
can travel between Elkins and Cass
by rail, enjoy local food, activities
and lodging without a car. Dedicated
personnel in our office assist with
these unique vacation packages. Our
excursions feature a mix of options
for passengers. Our Cass Scenic
Railroad Bald Knob, our Elkins New
Tygart Flyer, and our Elkins Cheat
Mountain Salamander trains, typically
more than four hours in length, all
include a lunch for each ticketed passenger. (Shorter trains that are two
hours or less do not include lunch.)
