U.S. 460 at Milepost 106, is
access to the northern-most of
the parkway's twin "big cities,"
Roanoke. The Star City of the
South, so-named for its beacon
86-foot lighted star, has a lively
downtown full of restaurants,
shopping and museums, its
own municipal mountain (Mill
Mountain, with a network of
trails and that star), and nearby
Carvins Cove Nature Preserve,
home of some 60 miles of trails,
as well as boating and fishing.
At Tuggle Gap, Milepost
165.2, the parkway crosses Va. 8,
