BACK ISSUES LEAD
TO NEW EXPERIENCES

I wrote to you three years ago, when I moved
to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley from Baton
Rouge, Louisiana, after losing everything in
a flood, including all my issues of Blue Ridge
Country. A couple of years ago on Craigslist,
someone had multiple years of back issues of
your magazine, back to 2004. I jumped at the
offer, and now reading them, they have a whole
new meaning. Before, I dreamed of this area,
through your stories, articles, even the ads. Now
I am living them.
Thank you for igniting those dreams, and
now helping fuel them and experience them.

I have subscribed for many years, since moving
to Polk County, North Carolina, from New
England, and I enjoy your magazine thoroughly.
It is passed on after a new one comes and it has
been very helpful when I have visitors who may
be looking for a special place to visit while here.
The November/December issue is just
wonderful . . . as far as I'm concerned the best
you have ever produced. I have copied several
articles to send to friends as I know they will
speak to those people as they speak to me. This
issue I will keep and not pass on!
To be truthful, I don't read every article in
every edition, but this one piqued my interest
with every page.

lives with her husband on a farm in the
Appalachian Mountains. Her articles have
appeared in Grit, Country Magazine and
elsewhere. When she's not writing or drawing
for magazines, she writes dramas for the
Christian drama service, Skit Guys, and sends
picture book manuscripts off in the hopes of
being a published children's author someday.

She co-wrote a history of Blacksburg's Lyric
Theatre, tracking down ghosts and more. An
award-winning regional writer, she penned her
first Blue Ridge Country story in 1988.

Benjamin Murphy

Grant Currin
(Quiz/Travel Guide) writes about science,
conservation and travel. After a stint teaching
English in Spain, he returned to Tennessee and
opened a coffee shop in his hometown. He also
contributed last year's travel guide.

Benjamin Murphy (Escarpment Curio)
completed his PhD in Geology & Geophysics at
Oregon State University this past summer. He is
now a Mendenhall Postdoctoral Fellow with the
USGS in Colorado. All research discussed in his
curio was done while a student at Oregon State,
before his appointment with the USGS.
