Factoids

A snow crystal is a single crystal of ice.
In January of 2016 Glengarry, WV received
42 inches of snow in one day.
Enough plastic bottles are tossed each
year to circle the Earth four times.

1/2 medium orange
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
20 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2  star anise
1 (750-milliliter) bottle dry red wine
Rum or amaretto, for serving (optional)
Directions
Zest orange in wide strips and set aside.
Juice orange and set aside. Combine water
and sugar and boil until the sugar has
dissolved. Reduce heat and add spices,
zest, and juice. Simmer 1 minute. Reduce
heat and add wine. Maintain at bare
simmer for 20 minutes to up to an hour.
Strain and serve in small mugs. Add a shot
of amaretto or rum as desired.
