LOVE ON THE OVERLOOK

A SWEET CEREMONY

TROPICAL FUN

Carley Edwards and Chris Beckner first met
when their brothers became friends in middle
school. They often saw each other at school
football games or wrestling matches, but it
wasn't until a meet-up over coffee years later
that they realized the sparks between them.
The Sunday in November began like any
other with church and lunch. That afternoon,
Chris slipped Carley an envelope that read
"Scavenger Hunt." His clues took them to
three destinations significant to them and they
took a photo at each location; their final stop
ended at the Roanoke Mountain overlook,
where he'd first confessed his love years ago,
and Chris asked her to marry him.

The ceremony was incredibly special to
Carley, who, after months of anticipation,
was so happy to stand hand-in-hand with
her best friend in the sanctuary she grew up
in, surrounded by their loved ones. She was
"truly overflowing with joy" as they sang
and prayed, shared their personalized vows,
washed each other's feet and committed
their lives to one another in front of their
friends and family.
Chris says his favorite memory was the
prelude to the ceremony. "I loved the buildup and the mystery, and the overwhelming
sense that God had orchestrated everything
to get us to this point."

The couple chose a fun tropical theme for the
summer day, as Chris temporarily lived in the
Caribbean and Carley loves pineapples. Shades
of green were accented with pops of yellow
and orange, while the cored-out pineapples
and flowers served as centerpieces.
The reception venue's open space allowed
for magical lighting. Because their first date
including a trip to Denny's (to stretch it out
even longer as they were enjoying their time
so much!), Carley and Chris chose to serve a
stack of pancakes rather than traditional cake.
"We thought it was much more representative
of us," Carley says. "With our family and
friends, it was more than enough!"
