LOVE STORY FOR THE AGES
WRAPPED IN LOVE (LITERALLY)
LITTLE MOMENTS MATTER MOST
CJ Yunger and Kitty Schaffernoth met at
Virginia Tech when they both joined their
Quidditch team. CJ was their best Seeker, while
Kitty was a Beater. What began as teammates
quickly formed into a great friendship that
blossomed into an "amazing and adventurous
relationship."
Kitty has a special attachment to Lake
Crescent in Olympic National Park. The crystal
clear glacial lake is surrounded by evergreen
trees, and was where she told CJ she loved
him for the first time. In August 2017, the
couple revisited for a camping trip, where CJ
proposed to her at sunrise on the lake shore
for a perfect, intimate moment.
Though the couple now lives in Portland, CJ's
family is in Roanoke, and it was important to
the couple to come home for their wedding.
With their vendors and gorgeous venue's views,
they created a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony
that highlighted their love of travel, adventure
and this earth.
CJ's sister wrote a poem that melted everyone's hearts. Before the wedding, Kitty asked
friends and family for fabric pieces, which
she used to create a quilt everyone signed
as their guestbook; they also used it for a
quilt-wrapping ceremony to symbolize their
union, representing their loved ones' support
of their marriage.
The newlyweds still get compliments on their
food, which Kitty loves. "Pumpernickel Pickle
was a joy to work with; we clicked over our love
of Harry Potter and she had such creative ideas,
plus we borrowed her vintage furniture to dress
up the space. Her staff went above and beyond!"
Kitty has "snapshots" of the unforgettable
day, such as dancing with her father. In a
quiet moment just before walking out for the
ceremony, she remembers the weight of the
day and adventures to come, wanting to hold
onto the feelings and moment.
"Our day was totally about us and our life
together," Kitty says. "All we felt that day was
love and joy."
