A SWEET LAKE PROPOSAL

SWITCHING THINGS UP

AT LONG LAST

When Lauren Phlegar told a friend she was
"so ready" to meet someone, her friend knew
immediately to introduce her to Alex Black.
After a double date, they exchanged numbers,
and the rest is history.
Two years later, Alex had the perfect time
and place to propose, piling several friends into
their car and driving to her family's lake house.
To avoid suspicion, Alex quickly brought her
to the dock to bend on one knee and propose.
As soon as she said yes, her family and their
friends came out of the boat house to surprise
them and celebrate. "It was one of the coolest
experiences I've ever had, and one I will never
forget for the rest of my life," Alex says.

Though their ceremony was scheduled for
four o'clock, and the weather had been fine
all day, a storm system came through just
before the ceremony. While it wouldn't ruin
the day, neither of them wanted to move
their ceremony inside, as Lauren had always
dreamed of an outdoor ceremony. So, they
made the decision to host their cocktail hour
in the barn first. It turned out to be one of
everyone's favorite parts!
"Our guests loved this because they had food
in their bellies and drinks in hand during the
ceremony," Lauren says. "It worked out really
well, and within an hour, the weather was
perfect for our outdoor ceremony."

With fun reception extras such as a live band,
donut cake tower, ice cream cart and even latenight pizza, guests enjoyed every last detail of
the couple's wedding reception.
While the ceremony and reception were of
course special, Lauren and Alex share the same
favorite memory. After their sparkler exit, the
two of them walked up to the top of the hill at
Sinkland Farm, with a gorgeous view before
them. They sat in Adirondeck chairs beneath
the star-filled sky and watched their guests
leave, sitting alone together as they chatted
about their day. This quiet reflection together
created a magical moment that neither of them
could ever forget.
