A TRUE FAMILY EVENT
TAKING IN THE MOMENTS
Julia Arthur met Jacob Younts in high school,
though it wasn't until after graduating college
and moving back home to Salem that they
reunited, becoming best friends first, then
making their relationship official in June 2016.
In September 2018, they went to Soundside
Park on Topsail Island. With a whole week to
themselves, he planned a sweet proposal, walking
with Julia along the pier. The photographer he'd
planted asked to take their photo for the local
magazine, and upon saying yes, Julie turned
to see Jacob on one knee. They called their
parents and drank champagne at a picnic table
he'd set up, and celebrated with their friends
upon their return.
Their venue was a family lake house built by
Julia's grandmother, and is the bride's favorite
place in the world. Their family transformed
the home into a wedding venue; their months
of hard work created the perfect setting for
the couple, and made amazing memories for
everyone who helped Julia and Jacob.
Because the couple chose to get married at
Smith Mountain Lake, it was easy to have fun
with their lake theme! Decor included navy
and white colors, simple white florals, two
old sunfish sailboats as beer coolers, handpainted paddles and table numbers shaped
like buoys. They also used the dock as a game
area for guests.
While Julia says "every single moment" is her
favorite, one that stands out in particular was
the VA Dare, which has long been part of her
lake life; it not only provided transportation,
but also hosted their rehearsal dinner. She
also recalls the moment where, right after the
ceremony as she and her new husband exited,
stopped for a kiss and took in the moment.
She and Jacob were so excited to walk out as a
married couple and celebrate!
Guests enjoyed a vanilla cake with a layer
of strawberry jam, made by the groom's sister,
and took home favors of strawberry jam, made
by the bride and her mother, to remember the
occasion.
