exhibition featuring significant paintings
and sculptures by renowned American
artists who celebrated gardens as a compelling subject during an era of vibrant
gardening culture.

United States, they distinguished themselves further from their French counterparts by painting images of uniquely American subjects-notably, the garden.

On view for the first time together, the exhibition features 30 works by artists such
as John Singer Sargent, Frederick Childe
Hassam and John Henry Twachtman, all
of whom participated in the tremendous
impact of the Impressionist art movement
in America from 1880-1910.

The Museum also is pleased to present Art
Go Bloom March 23-26, a special four-day
fundraiser in association with American
Impressionism in the Garden featuring fresh,
live floral arrangements created by Roanoke-area garden clubs inspired by works
on view in the Museum's galleries. The fourday event features ticketed a la carte programming such as floral demonstrations,
workshops, tastings and tours.

During the late 19th century, many American Impressionist artists studied alongside
their French counterparts in Paris and
Giverny to capture light's fleeting effects by
painting en plein air, outside and not in a
studio. These artists painted the "impres-

Admission to the four-day fundraiser Art
Go Bloom March 23-26 is $10 per day for
adults and $5 per day for youth and includes admission to American Impressionism in the Garden and the Art Go Bloom
fresh floral creations by the participating
garden clubs. Other ticketed Art Go Bloom
events such as the demonstrations, workshops, tastings and tours are additional.

Tickets to American Impressionism in the
Garden, on view through May 14, are free
for members; $8 for adults; $6 for seniors
