r. Courtney Wiegard graduated from
Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary
Medicine in 2005, immediately becoming
an associate veterinarian at Vinton Vet. Promoted
to Medical Director in 2014, Dr. Wiegard became
an owner of the hospital in 2019. Since her time
in the practice, she has helped their high-volume,
fast-paced hospital grow from a five-doctor
practice to seven, with no signs of slowing down!
Dr. Wiegard also became an owner of Pet Vet
Roanoke in early 2020 to facilitate the growth, and
is excited to share their platinum gold standard
care with their clientele in Roanoke County.
Her award-winning business (a multi-time
"Platinum" winner in The Roanoker Magazine's
"Best of Roanoke" reader awards) is an accredited
veterinary hospital with AAHA (American Animal
Hospital Association), exhibiting the highest
standards of care. During their growth, they also
became certified "Feline Friendly" and have
several team members who are certified "Fear
Free Professionals." Their services include, but
are not limited to, surgical laser, therapeutic laser,
advanced dentistry, acupuncture and orthopedics;
they are also excited to soon offer veterinary
care to exotic animals.
Dr. Wiegard and her husband Spencer, a partner at
Gentry Locke Attorneys, live in Roanoke with their
two daughters, Elliott, 12, and Brynne, 10, along
with their four dogs, a cat, a guinea pig, a gecko
and tree frog. Having lived here since 2007, they
are active in the community; Dr. Wiegard is the
President of the Board of Directors for St. Francis
Services Dogs and a board member of Roanoke
Children's Theatre. She has taught free classes
at Carilion for expectant parents ("Introducing
Your Four-Legged Baby to Your New Baby") for
the last decade and loves collaborating with
other local businesses.
"I was thrilled to become the official veterinarian
for the Black Dog Salvage black dogs!" Dr. Wiegard
says.
