PAT AND CHUCK BLACKLEY OUR COUNTIES Known as the "Jewel of the Blue Ridge," Smith Mountain Lake is located in scenic Southwest Virginia at the convergence of three counties - Bedford, Franklin and Pittsylvania. Together they encompass more than 500 miles of shoreline with each county offering exceptional beauty and diverse attractions. The eastern shores of SML are located in Bedford County with the area collectively referred to as Eastlake. The majority of the western portion of SML is in Franklin County and is known as Westlake. Pittsylvania County's shoreline, the smallest in area of the three, is called Southlake and includes access to Smith Mountain Dam. Since there is no town level of government at SML, administrators and elected officials from each of the three counties work together to provide public services. In addition, a number of active community organizations serve the needs and interests of lake residents and visitors. For contact information, turn to Page 91. 42 | VISITSMITHMOUNTAINLAKE.COM
