Fresh air blower only operates on level 4 (High)
2008-2011 Volkswagen Tiguan The Tiguan, VW’s compact SUV, has had its share of HVAC problems during its short lifespan. Among the gremlins have been both electrical and software problems with the fans and blower motors. Here’s a problem covering the 2008-2011 models that emerged recently – mostly in cold weather driving areas. If you have a customer who complains that the fresh air blower only operates on Level 4 (speed settings 1-3 do not function), check the blower motor resistor. It seems the cause may be snow entering the blower via the air intake. The thawing snow can refreeze and block the blower rotation, causing the blower motor resistor to fail. As a result, speed settings 1-3 do not function. VW advises to replace the fresh air blower motor and resistor, and add a special water deflector to prevent the problem from reoccurring.
Closed water deflector installed on the right side in the plenum chamber.
Replace the fresh air blower motor (P/N 1K1 819 015 C) and resistor (P/N 1K0 959 263 A), according to the proper service information for the model year you are servicing. Install the special closed water deflector (P/N 5N1 819 404 A 9B9) on the right side in the plenum chamber, according to the instructions that come with the part.
