MACS board member attends CIAAR In early November, Mike Dawson of TCCI Manufacturing attended the China International Auto Air-conditioning and Refrigeration (CIAAR) exhibition in Shanghai. His attendance bolstered the friendly cooperation between the two organizations. At the ribbon cutting, Mike was introduced as a MACS Board member, and in a brief address he noted the continued growth and success of the CIAAR expo. He invited everyone to the MACS Convention and Trade Show in January. Organizer Kim Yang responded with his thanks and noted that several companies had already been recruited to exhibit in Las Vegas. In Memoriam Joe Echols Former MACS Director Joe Echols died on November 18th. Joe served on the MACS Board of Directors in 1993 and received the society’s Pioneer Award in 2009. A native of Atlanta, he earned an associate’s degree from Dekalb Community College and began his aftermarket career with SPX/Robinair in 1973. He became their regional sales coordinator in 1975. In 1986, Joe founded J.A. Echols and Associates, a manufacturer’s representative firm. In creating his company Joe had a vision for an organization of technically educated and motivated sales reps to not only sell products but to also educate the customer on the proper use of the company’s tools, chemicals and equipment. Today, his company’s motto remains: “When we educate, we sell!” His company grew and prospered throughout the southeast and southwestern United States and Puerto Rico. Joe prided his organization on being at the cutting edge technically and using technology for the client’s benefit. He was always looking ahead, and anticipating changes in the business. Several years ago he said, “The automobile industry is about to make a dramatic change in the way they build and fuel cars. This change offers a challenge to everyone to create new tools, new equipment and be a part of a historical change in the automobile industry. Be part of it!” His words ring true today.
