Not just skin deep – Part three
Here’s our final installment of the Delphi Product & Service Solutions picture guide to radiator cosmetics. It will help you inspect your new product right out of the box and shows what is acceptable and what should be rejected for use. Radiators are more fragile than other underhood parts and although suppliers take the strictest precautions when manufacturing, it is normal to have some surface imperfections. Here’s more of what to look for and a handy list of reminders.
Brazing – Damaged tube due to braze bars
Folded, crushed or bloated tube
Accept: Radiator with all tubes well aligned to radiator head and no damage. Accept: Dark braze bar marks on core
Reject: Material missing on tube due to damage of braze bars. This defect can cause leaks.
Reject: Any damaged or bloated tube. This is usually caused by bad alignment of the tubes on the radiator head during assembly.
