Ford SUV with noisy HVAC Whistle noise at high blower speeds These vehicles may exhibit a highpitched whistling noise with the A/C on at higher blower motor speeds. To verify the problem, start the engine, turn on the A/C, set the blower motor to the highest speed and listen for the whistling sound. Apply upward hand pressure to the bottom of the blower motor. If the noise dissipates, the solution is to replace the air inlet duct. 1. Remove the heater core and evaporator core housing according to proper service information. 2. Remove the six air inlet duct retaining screws as shown in the diagram, then the air inlet duct. 40 ACTION * November/December 2013 Illustration: Ford Motor Co. 2009-2013 Ford Expedition & Lincoln Navigator 3. Install replacement air inlet duct (P/N DL3Z-19A618-A) and O-ring Kit (P/N 6E5Z-19B596AA) using the six retaining screws. 4. Reinstall the heater core and evaporator core housing according to proper service information. Verify that the problem is solved before retuning vehicle to customer. Temperature blend door actuator noise These vehicles may exhibit a noise coming from the dash area after the vehicle is started or when changing the HVAC temperature setting. When you test for this problem, if the vehicle has a dual-zone system, test both the driver and passenger side temperature blend doors. Start the engine and set the heater control to full-heat. Repeat on the full-cool setting. If a clicking noise is not heard at either end of travel, the blend door actuator is not the problem. If, however, a clicking noise is heard at either end of travel, the fix is to replace the blend door actuator. Using proper service information, replace the faulty blend door actuator with replacement (P/N AL3Z-19E616-A).
