No matter how hard you work to design an A/C system,
the final installation has a huge impact on performance,
says Darmiento. "You can put the same unit on three identical cabs but get three very different outcomes because
there was no consistency in how it was installed."
One factor is you're adding air conditioning to a cab
that's already built, says Mike Oddo of NVB Equipment
in Fresno, Calif. "When you mount a unit, you can only
work with the space you have," he explains. "Some cabs
are extremely tight and are not designed for climate controls at all." (Figures 3)

A WD can also help the specialty OE with factory installation by selecting the right size and location for the condenser,
evaporator, compressor, and refrigerant lines.

Oddo says it's not uncommon to see cabs with the right unit
placed in the wrong location. This error makes airflow and working on the unit a challenge. He recalls being asked to swap out a
ceiling-mounted evaporator on a hay squeeze, a diesel-powered
lift truck designed for moving hay bales. The operator can work
