under stress as a percentage of the original length). Figure
9 is an example of a tensile test on a rubber sample.
Samples are normally tested before and after exposure
in order to determine the change in material strength
and elongation.
Assembly Tensile Test: Figure 10 is an example of a
tensile test being performed on a hose assembly. This
would test the strength of the hose and also the fittings
attached to the hose. v
SAE's ICCSC Committees meet every year at the annual MACS Training Event and Trade Show. This year the
meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 9am to 3pm. This meeting includes the main
ICCSC and all five subcommittees.
Meetings are open to SAE Members and to the public, and MACS members are encouraged to attend.

Part 3: Conclusions / Key Points
What does this mean for the automotive and mobile
air-conditioning industry? Hopefully, the information presented
in this issue of MACS Service Reports illustrates
all of the key aspects of the automotive and mobile airconditioning
hose and hose assembly performance standards
to ensure high quality products in the industry.
Performance standards are established by experts from
many areas of the automotive and mobile air-conditioning
industry who volunteer to publish requirements as members
of SAE Standards Committees. Many of these same
members attend the MACS Annual Training Event and
Trade show and provide technician training. This allows
attendees to gain a better understanding of the key technical
issues facing the service and repair industry.
Also presented in this issue is the difference between
the new bulk automotive (mobile) air-conditioning hose
standard SAE J3062 and the legacy standard SAE J2064
for the hose and tube assembly. An introduction to standard
SAE J2911 was presented which identifies the procedures
manufacturers use to certify their products are in
compliance with SAE standards.
What should you to look for on products currently in the
market (on a vehicle or for replacement or repair parts)?
If the hose meets the requirements of the SAE standard
it will be marked " SAE J3062 " on the hose lay line (Figure
11). If the hose and tube assembly meet the requirements
of the SAE standard it will be marked " SAE J2064 " on one
of the metallic end fittings, not on the hose lay line. To
verify these products are certified to SAE J2911 and meet
the advertised SAE standard, they can be verified on the
SAE data base referenced in this article.
Can assemblies be made in the field which meet SAE
standards? Many service shops, aftermarket installers
(adding an air-conditioning system to a custom vehicle
body or application) carry bulk air- conditioning hose,
