Up to 60% throttle = 1500 RPM
Over 60% throttle = 2500 RPM
This is usually enough to push the
air out of the heater core.
Activating Inspection Mode on a
Toyota product:
-Run the engine until the Auto Stop
cycles a few times
-Connect your scan tool
-Enter KOEO (two
start button
pushes, no brake)
-Select " Powertrain/Hybrid Control/Active
Test "
-Select " Inspection Mode-2WD Inspection "
-Press
the brake and start the engine
(it will stay running)
-the HV SYSTEM WARNING LAMP
WILL ILLUMINATE. This is normal.
You can now rev the engine as described.
-When
finished, turn the ignition
OFF to return to normal operation.
If you are using an Autel, they have
changed the menu and the tool will
guide you back to " Special Function " .
Follow the instructions and the
tool will offer a drop-down menu.
Choose " 2WD for measuring exhaust
gas/2WD maintenance Mode " .
DO NOT road test the vehicle while

Pro Tip for Toyota Hybrids...
USE INSPECTION MODE
So...you just finished filling the engine cooling
system using your Airlift, cracked the bleeder on
the top of the radiator and topped up the reservoir.
Hit the button, " Ready " light comes on and the engine
starts. Things start to get warm then the engine
shuts down. No problem...run the A/C on MAX
and the engine will stay running. Still no heat, and
the engine is not overheating. No problem, rev the
engine. Give it some throttle and the RPM changes
very little or not at all.
Inspection Mode gives you the ability to override
the idle stop. Inspection Mode also gives you the
ability to rev the engine.

in INSPECTION MODE as the transaxle
can be damaged.
This mode can also be used for any service in the
bay when you want to keep the engine running. I use
it all the time for A/C performance testing and engine
misfire diagnosis. This mode can also be used
for some trouble code diagnostics in the bay. The
MASTER WARNING LAMP will turn on if a code sets.
Other manufacturers of Hybrid vehicles have their
own version of this mode to allow for 5-gas diagnosis
and emission testing. It is wise to search for
these and try them out on your scan tool if you have
the time instead of learning on the fly.
If this fails, confirm the vehicle is not overheating
and road test the vehicle " aggressively, " enough
to get the engine RPM high enough to push the air
pocket out of the heater core.
