Just north of Payson are hot springs, the remnants of a Verde River resort. Oak Creek near Sedona has a natural rock flume at Slide Rock State Park that adds a bit of thrill to river play. The San Carlos Apache Tribe manages several good fishing areas along the Blue, Black and Salt rivers as well as at Seneca and Port of Pines lakes. Roosevelt Lake, formed by a Salt River dam, is a Sonoran Desert retreat with boat launches, camping and amenities.
