WORLDS OF FUN

SUMMER IN KANSAS CITY

KC PUMPKIN PATCH

FALL IN KANSAS CITY
Many consider the autumn months to
be truly the most enjoyable in Kansas
City. Pleasant temperatures, low humidity and blue skies are the backdrops for
festivals almost every weekend, backto-school shopping at Legends Outlets
and tailgating at Arrowhead Stadium.
Autumn attractions include pumpkin
patches, wineries and apple orchards
on the outskirts of the metro area.

goodies. In neighboring Clay County,
Carolyn's Country Cousins Pumpkin
Patch includes a corn maze and miniature train. Take a hayride or watch as
apple cider and apple butter are made
at the Louisburg Cider Mill in Kansas.
But you don't have to leave the city
to enjoy the fall colors and landscape.
Cliff Drive Scenic Byway, a four-milelong corridor from Independence Avenue
to Gladstone Boulevard, is one of the best
places in town to take in the fall colors.
The sugar maples, oaks and elm trees
turn beautiful colors on the bluffs overlooking the city and the river. Autumn
weekends are " auto-free " on Cliff Drive,

Celebrating summer in the water is
all but mandated by Kansas City's
heritage of more than 200 beautiful fountains, many of which are
designed for people getting wet.
However, fun in the water kicked
up a notch when Oceans of Fun
debuted in 1982, joining its sister
theme-park property, Worlds of Fun,
itself a tradition of good times since
1973. Now one park, the two areas
have continued to grow and expand,
each year contributing a little more
fun to the lazy days of summer. New
for 2021 is the Riptide Raceway, the
longest mat-racing slide in the
Midwest.
Those who prefer to spend their
summer days splashing about have
more choices than ever with water
parks in all areas of the KC metro.
On the Kansas side of the city
is Great Wolf Lodge. Its 12-level,
indoor Fort Mackenzie, complete
with a 1,000-gallon tipper bucket,
will please everyone in the family, as
will themed rooms and great packages for weekend stays.
When not cooling off in local
water parks or enjoying the Friday
night fireworks at a Royals baseball game, many Kansas Citians
make a date with Starlight Theatre.
In addition to numerous concerts
and special events, Starlight hosts
at least five Broadway shows under
the stars each summer.

Kansas City can be as warm as they
are beautiful, so pack your swimsuit
and some sunscreen. Just remember,
there's plenty of water to cool you
off when you're ready.

a beautiful time to go for a nice walk
or bike ride and enjoy one of the original beauties that made the Kansas City
parks and boulevards system a model for
the rest of the country.
Kansas City's Western heritage comes
out in full force each fall with eight
weeks of rodeos, livestock shows and bigname country concerts at the American
Royal Complex. And when it comes to
Halloween, nowhere does it quite like
Kansas City. From elaborate haunted
houses like The Beast and Edge of Hell
to daytime family fun like the Liberty
Corn Maze, KC knows how to show you
a frightfully good time.
