Chapter 1. Specialty Vehilces Kit Cars and Reconstructed Vehicles A Kit Car or reconstructed vehicle is one that is substantially altered from its original construction by the removal, addition or substitution of essential components. Customers must have ALL of the following: * Certificate of Origin from the kit manufacturer (if commercial car kit has been used) * Certificate of Title for the vehicle used as the source of the chassis (if vehicle was previously titled) * Bill of Sale or invoice from the manufacturer of the kit or specialty car * Bill of Sale for each major component such as engine, transmission, etc. used in construction of the specialty vehicle. Bills of sale must list the serial number of each major component and if possible the VIN of the vehicle * A VIN will be assigned by the RMV Auto Theft Unit. Replica Vehicles A replica vehicle is a reproduction of an early vintage vehicle built on a custom frame or chassis from another manufacturer. Customers must have ALL of the following: * Certificate of Origin from the frame or chassis manufacturer * Bill of Sale for frame or chassis * A VIN will be assigned by the RMV Auto Theft Unit 5/05
