Chapter 5. Class D Permit and License Cancelled Road Tests To avoid a fee, you must cancel your road test at least 72 hours before it is scheduled with the Massachusetts RMV. Road tests will be cancelled if the Governor declares a state of emergency for the entire state or for the region where your road test will take place. If your road test is cancelled, an alert will be posted online. Cancellation messages will also be on the RMV phone line. Your road test may also be cancelled due to public school cancellations or delays at the discretion of the RMV. Your road test examiner may also cancel your test due to safety or scheduling concerns. You may reschedule your road test at no cost if it was cancelled due to weather. Pre-Pay for Road Test and License After passing your road test and if all fees have been paid, your passenger (Class D) or motorcycle (Class M) learner's permit will be stamped in the validation section and immediately serve as your temporary driver's license while the permanent license is mailed to you. Your driver's license will be mailed to you within 5 to 7 days if you have: * Passed your road test. * No outstanding obligations. * Paid all road test and driver's license fees. 03/18
