Chapter 8. Military Skills Test Waiver for CDL The Registry may waive the driving skills road test for a customer with at least two years of military Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) experience which immediately preceded their discharge from the military. Applicants must have been employed within the last 90 days in a military position requiring the operation of a military motor vehicle that is representative of the class of Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for which they are applying. The customer must present the following to the Driver Licensing Department. The Driver Licensing Department will review the submitted documentation and determine if the customer qualifies for the skills test waiver. * A completed Application for Military Skills Test Waiver * A copy of a valid learner's permit for the license class he/she is applying for * A DD-214, DA-348, or other military documentation proving driver training and experience * A DOT Medical Certificate * A completed CDL Self-Certification Application NOTE: The waiver is limited only to the skills test portion of the CDL application process. Knowledge exams cannot be waived. Applicants are required to take and pass the CDL general knowledge exam and the knowledge exam(s) for any endorsement they require. The customer must also still pay the $20 road test fee. A customer cannot use the skills test waiver to obtain a School Bus or HazMat endorsement. 02/13
