Chapter 4-1 Ambulance: Ambulance Plates A. Definition: A motor vehicle equipped and used exclusively for the transportation of sick, injured or wounded persons, or a motor vehicle operated by a society incorporated under the laws of the commonwealth for the prevention of cruelty to animals, or for the care and protection of harmless or suffering animals, and used exclusively for the transportation of stray and neglected, sick, injured or wounded animals. (M.G.L. ch. 90 s. 1) B. Plate Types: There are two types of ambulance plates: Ambulance Normal (Plate Type: AMN) Normal Ambulance plates consist of two to four numbers. Ambulance Reserved (Plate Type: AMR) Reserved Ambulance plates consist of one or two numbers ALARS maintains the following ambulance plate codes: Code Description AMN Normal or Animal Ambulance AMR Reserved Ambulance C. Plates Issued: Ambulance Normal & Reserved - Two plates are issued. D. Plate Fees: An Ambulance Normal (AMN) plate and Animal Ambulance plate is charged a $25 annual fee. An Ambulance Reserved (AMR) plate is charged a $45 ($25 annual fee plus a $20 special plate fee) If the customer registers his vehicle after October 1st, the registration fee will be half the initial registration fee.
