Chapter 1-6 Supporting Documents Certified Release - A Certified Release is a receipt given to a customer when all past due obligations are paid. The customer must bring this release to the Registry before a registration can be processed. The registration cannot be processed until all outstanding obligations are paid. Affidavit of Repossession - An Affidavit of Repossession is used when a vehicle owner defaults on a loan payment and the lien holder wants to repossess the vehicle and assign the title to the new owner. This form must be completed by the person or company that repossessed the vehicle and signed by a Notary Public. Assignment and Authorization of Payoff - An Assignment and Authorization of Payoff form is generally used when a person trades in a vehicle towards the purchase of a new car while the lien on the trade-in has not been satisfied. By signing this form the dealer can pay off the lien and receive the title. This form must be completed and signed by the owner of the vehicle. The signature must match the name on the front of the title. A copy of this form is attached to the title when the vehicle is sold. 12/89 1:32
