Chapter 1-1 Registration Residency Requirements Registration Requirements for Individuals Chapter 178 of the Acts of 2012, a resident of Massachusetts, or another state or country, who does not have a driver's license, a Massachusetts ID, or a Social Security Number, will be required to prove Massachusetts residency to obtain a registration. The new requirements applies to the following registration transactions: * New Registration * Registration Transfers * Plate Swaps * Renewals * Amendments * Reinstatements When you apply for a registration for a motor vehicle or trailer, you must provide at lease ONE (1) for the following: * A Drivers License Number; OR * A Massachusetts Identification Card number (issued to the applicant under M.G.L. c. 90, Section 8E); OR * A Social Security Number (SSN); OR * Other proof of legal residence in Massachusetts - This may include one or more of the documents listed in the Driver's Manual (the current version at the time of application) section "Acceptable Forms of Identification - Documents to Prove Massachusetts Residence" (the only exception is that a Massachusetts Certificate of Registration is not acceptable). 01/13 1:12http://www.massrmv.com/LicenseandID/AcceptableIdentificationDocuments.aspx
