Can you talk about how 3D printing is
disrupting development cycles?
It is not a panacea or save all. It is just another
arrow in the quiver. We can now 3D print
and it is speeding up cycles and making them
tighter. Tools are more like analog but it is not
a catch-all.

What are the main benefits?
It reduces tooling costs and allows you to make
more parts. 3D isotropic parts don't behave
in the same direction, they think differently.
An advantage of 3D printing is that you don't
have to retool an entire factory to make a single
change in a vehicle. The benefit is cost and time.

Will 3D technology replace
production lines?
It is meant to reconfigure, not replace. You
won't swap one for one. That is not going to
happen - it's not a replacement but a new
technology. It will change the way we use
other arrows in the quiver in the future. It
will help with logistics and will put a lot of
pressure on those not using it. Say if an OEM
is using it, they can move faster and be more
integrated. They can more quickly work in
this type of open environment versus locked
together. When it is an open system it is easier
to plan. When it's closed, it puts more pressure
on everyone and it's hard to budget for it. At
the OEM level, it makes it easier to budget.

Who are your partners?
A lot of people work with us. Everything is not
just product focused. We do development in
labs and micro-factories - we work on batteries,
motors, material. Our partners can be individuals and co-creators. They are everywhere
- online and in the micro-factories. We are not
just a tech shop. We hang our shingle online and
say, "We are doing this, can you help?"

Do you work with universities?
Yes, we work with UT, ASU, National Labs and
various other universities. We also have a great
partnership with The University of Las Vegas.
We work with graduate, post-doctoral and
undergrads. We even work with kids sometimes.
We offer training and they give us inspiration.

You unveiled The Strati, the
world's first 3D printed vehicle.
Do you have others?
The Rally Fighter was our first vehicle before
