With every season over the past decade, I've
had the pleasure of introducing this magazine
and sharing some of my personal milestones
and interests: turning 50, watching my two daughters
grow from middle school and high school students to
college and graduate students, pursuing my hobbies of
running and bird-watching.
I never expected it, but this Life in Balance column has
come with some recognition. It's always fun when a UVA

patient or someone in the community recognizes me from
the magazine. As much as I've enjoyed this role, I've decided it's time to let
someone new lead the magazine.
Starting with the Spring 2017 issue, my boss and CEO of the medical center,
Pamela Sutton-Wallace, will continue the same format of introducing a UVA
expert, who will shed light on a timely and important health topic. Pamela
joined UVA Medical Center in July 2014 to oversee the strategic direction
and operations of our hospital and clinic services. In other words, she makes
sure thousands of Virginians and beyond have access to the best healthcare
in the country. Like so many women, though, she helps manage the lives and
well-being of her family, while staying on top of her own. Finding that perfect
balance is always at the top of her mind.
I'd like to thank you for reading my two cents and let you know that I will
continue to serve as a UVA physician and associate dean for graduate medical education, where I help oversee the training of more than 780 residents
and fellows-our next generation of physicians. A highlight of my professional
career is being elected as vice-chair of the institutional review committee for
the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, giving me a leadership role at the national level in the training of new physicians. Of course,
another highlight has been serving as the "face" of Vigor. If you ever see me
at UVA or in the community, don't hesitate to say hello and to let me know
what Vigor means to you.
