After suffering a concussion,
one man follows doctor's
orders to a full recovery

was Giovani "Gio" Douyon's
girlfriend who first pegged
his odd behavior as possible signs of a concussion. He had
trouble remembering things and
experienced mood swings that were
not normal for him. Just three days
earlier, Douyon had been in a car
accident but walked away seemingly unscathed.
According to David Schwartz,
PhD, with the Concussion Institute
at Northside Hospital Duluth,
Douyon's symptoms and story are
all too common.
"People are more inclined to
associate concussions with sports,
a knockout punch kind of impact,"
Dr. Schwartz says. "Folks tend to
overlook car accidents as a significant source."
Upon visiting the Concussion
Institute at Northside Hospital
Duluth, Douyon went through a
series of evaluations before Dr.
Schwartz confirmed that Douyon
had in fact suffered a concussion.
"I've played a lot of impact
sports, including wrestling, football and basketball, and I had
never suffered a concussion until,
