Central Carolina HEALTH - Spring 2013 - (Page 2)

DIRECT FROM DOUG Welcome to Spring A   s we usher in the spring season, we are committed to your health. From our dedicated physicians who represent a wide range of medical specialties to our caring and experienced nurses, medical technicians and support staff, Central Carolina Hospital has an extraordinary group of people. I am inspired daily hearing from the patients, families and staff members who demonstrate healthcare expertise matched by compassion. In this issue, you’ll see how we are committed to serving our community’s healthcare needs in a personal way. Military families endure long separations and repeat deployments. To help ease the distance and isolation they experience, we make special accommodations for fathers to witness the birth of their sons and daughters from thousands of miles away. In our cover story, you’ll learn how CCH’s Labor and Delivery unit is bringing families together. Through webcams and Skype, four deployed fathers were as close as they could possibly be when their little ones made an entrance into the world. You’ll also see how we are using technology to continually improve your quality of care. Just as information technology is changing the world we live in, a revolution in health information technology is changing the way we address the health of our communities. CCH will implement electronic health records this spring, and we are pleased to share advances we are making and what it means for your health. Finally, you’ll read a story about Brian Hickman, a 28-year-old who needed an emergency surgery to treat acute diverticulitis. This is a condition more likely to be seen as people age. Rarely is it found in younger patients. Michael Gordon, MD, a general surgeon at CCH, performed a two-step surgery to treat Brian’s condition. We welcome the opportunity to serve you and your family in 2013. Visit us for early detection, wellness, primary care and outpatient services, or depend on us to be there if an emergency arises for you or your family. We are here and proud to be your hospital of choice. Sincerely, 2 | SPRING 2013 Doug Doris, CEO Central Carolina Hospital
