HEALTH BEAT Stormy Weather Summer storms can come up quickly. If you’re caught outside during a severe thunderstorm, the American Red Cross recommends these safety strategies: R If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to the storm to be struck by lightning, so seek some sort of shelter. R Get to land immediately if you’re boating or swimming. R In the woods, take shelter under shorter trees. R If you can’t find shelter, go to a lowlying, open place away from trees, poles or metal objects. R Be a very small target by squatting low to the ground, with your hands on your knees and your head between them; lying down makes you a larger target. Chicken and Garden Vegetable Salad Pair summer lettuce, asparagus and tomatoes with flavorful vinaigrette dressing. Don’t be tempted to substitute a fat-free topping to save on calories. Olive oil, rich in monounsaturated fat, may help your body absorb valuable nutrients in the vegetables.
