SKIN ADVICE FOR
ATHLETES
Question Corner
Are Caffeinated Drinks Safe for Kids?
A study in the journal Pediatrics found that 73 percent of American
children consumed caffeine every day. Although kids' caffeine intake
from soda is on the decline, their caffeine consumption from coffee and
energy drinks is rising.
While the U.S. government has not issued caffeine guidelines for kids,
Canadian guidelines recommend no more than 45 milligrams of caffeine
a day (one can of Diet Coke) for ages 4 to 6, 62.5 milligrams for ages
7 to 9 and 85 milligrams for ages 10 to 12.
