Contributors The creator of this issue’s guest font, Lauri Toikka is a Finnish type and graphic designer. Lauri lives in Berlin, Germany, where he and Florian Schick run the design studio Schick Toikka. Colette is Lauri’s final work from the Type and Media master course in The Hague, Holland. Imke Lass Sang An Sang An is a Korean-born photographer who specializes in food, interior and still-life. He graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1996, with a BFA in Advertising Photography. After a brief stint as a stylist in New York City, he returned to the world of photography. Today, he counts among his clients top names in fashion and food. Sang photographed the culinary feature “From Pour to Pair” (p 64). MY SIMPLE LUXURY: Kisses every morning from our 11-month-old rescued SPCA/SF German Shepard/Jindo Mix. Lauri Toikka Colette Adam Baer Adam Baer lives in Los Angeles and is currently adapting projects for the screen and consulting on creative and musical content. His work has appeared in Harper’s, The New York Times, GQ, The New Yorker and Rolling Stone. A contributing editor for Inc. Magazine, he has also worked as a correspondent for Travel + Leisure magazine and as an NPR music producer. His essays and humor have appeared in various anthologies. Adam wrote the Food + Drink article about Chef Ludo Lefebvre, called “The Pop-Up Chef” (p 43). MY SIMPLE LUXURY: A few hours in the Malibu surf. Imke Lass is a German-born photographer who has traveled the globe on assignment. She currently lives in Savannah, Ga., but also spends time in Hamburg, Germany. Her work has appeared in National Geographic Adventurer, Fortune, Forbes, Time and Travel + Leisure. Imke photographed the travel feature about Cannes, “Behind the Scenes” (p 56). MY SIMPLE LUXURY: A large café latte in the morning, made from freshly ground Italian roast espresso, with organic milk. ABOUT THE FONT: Colette is a transitional type family with text and display cuts, featuring spiky terminals and round curves. In its display form, contrast is pushed to the maximum.
