When you think of
The Presidential Suite at JW Marriott Cannes is stunning, and invites the special allure of Cannes right into your room.
the charming mediterranean city of cannes, you might likely associate it with the iconic film festival that takes place there each year. and with good reason. Since 1946, this international celebration of the cinematic art has captivated the world. and not just for the films, of course, but for the glamour that saturates this French riviera port for 10 days in may. Last year, i happened to be in cannes visiting our newly opened JW MARRIOTT CANNES during the very week the festival was taking place. i saw countless paparazzi with cameras at the ready to capture celebrities and other beautiful people. while this was what i expected to encounter, it was the unexpected moments in cannes that drew me in. the quaint shops that opened onto bougainvillealined streets. Yachts that blanketed the harbor. restaurants just five feet from the water’s edge, serving the most delectable French cuisine. in this issue of JWM magazine, we take you to cannes—the gentler, unexpected version—and discover what makes this lovely fishing village such an intriguing vacation destination. Speaking of vacations, i bought one recently—at a school auction. those who are frequent patrons of their children’s school auctions know that vacation homes are often hot-ticket items, and can either send the bidding through the roof or become the steal of the show. there’s an art to bidding at an auction, whether it’s actually for art or for a beach house. our christie’s expert, Lydia Fenet, takes the mystique out of the auction bidding process. read her tips, and you’ll no doubt be raising your paddle with confidence at the next auction you attend. also in this issue, some of our other experts—Dr. Pamela Peeke, Keri Glassman, Geraldine Howard of aromatherapy associates and Peter Gago from Penfolds among them—continue to dazzle us with their insightful expertise on wellness, nutrition, scent selection and wine, respectively. it is always my distinct pleasure to welcome our acclaimed partners’ words of wisdom to the pages of this magazine. i hope you find them a quiet break to your busy day. a new take on a lifelong passion. or the launching point to a new journey. Enjoy.
