DOING WHAT IT TAKES TO CARE FOR YOU
“One of my favorite things to tell my patients is, ‘It’s your body; It’s your decision,’ ” says
internal medicine physician Koren Jenkins, MD. “My approach to patient care is team oriented.
To do that, I will act as a coach, a cheerleader or a teammate—whatever it takes.”
Dr. Jenkins’ primary care services include preventive care, care for minor illnesses and
injuries, health screenings and ongoing management of chronic health issues such as heart
disease, diabetes and asthma.
She graduated from Hampton University in Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in biology, and
then obtained her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. After a residency at
George Washington University in Internal Medicine, she accepted a job at Maryland General
Hospital in 2008. Read more about Dr. Jenkins below:

WHEN I WAS A CHILD, I DREAMED OF: Becoming a corporate businesswoman. I’m
not entirely sure why, but I think I liked the idea of wearing a suit to work and looking busy.
MY FAMILY: I was raised in a military family. My husband, Maurice, and I have one son, Brian.
MY FIRST JOB WAS: A cashier at Best Buy.
TO UNWIND AFTER A LONG DAY: I love watching my 11-month-old son. I find
enjoyment watching him discover and experience new things.
I’M LISTENING TO: Adele, Beyoncé and Jill Scott. I am the queen of Pandora.
