Who?
Q&A
At 106, NAU's oldest living alumnus
has seen a lot. From traveling by
horse and wagon to get clams as a
boy in Morro Bay, Calif., to founding
the Electrical Engineering department
at Cal Poly and setting technical
instrument standards for the space
program, Dr. Harry Wolf, '33
BSED, has led an intriguing life.

Q. How did you come to learn about NAU
(then Arizona State Teachers College)?
In 1931, since I decided not to go back to UC
Berkeley for the fall semester, my friend Carl Smith
and I decided to take a trip in my Model T pickup.
We thought we'd go east, and maybe as far as
New Orleans. The trip across the desert was fascinating to us. The old Ford radiator boiled going up
the long grades, so we always carried a water bag
with us to replenish the boiled out water. In Arizona,
after the deserts, we came to lumber country and
water. It again fascinated us.
