President's letter A TAsTe of The BesT T he Ple a sures of Tr avel Bottom: From Cantonese classics to Middle Eastern delicacies, The Ritz-Carlton strives to make your culinary experience authentic, meaningful and delicious. I I am regularly asked by friends and family for travel recommendations. Where is the best winter destination? Are there any off-the-radar locales for foodies or shoppers? What is a great family-friendly vacation? This issue of The Ritz-Carlton Magazine shares a few of my favorite spots, as well as the recommendations of our ladies and gentlemen around the world. We start in India, which offers a rich mosaic of history and traditions. The Ritz-Carlton just opened its first Indian hotel, in Bangalore, and its restaurants beautifully capture the country's diverse culture and cuisine. I love the Indian fine-dining restaurant, Riwaz, as well as The Lantern, which features indoor and outdoor seating, and Chinese and Japanese cuisine. I encourage you to read this issue's "Falling in Love With ... Bangalore" article (page 36) for more insights about this remarkable city. Food lovers should also consider Abu Dhabi, a destination long influenced by its role as a multicultural trading port. The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal has five restaurants, including the not-to-be missed Chinese noodle shop Li Jiang, which showcases noodle-making in the center of the restaurant, and Mijana, which features impeccable and authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. On page 88, our head concierge shares his insider recommendations about the area. Shoppers looking for an experience beyond Paris or New York should consider Montreal, this issue's shopping feature (page 52). I love exploring the city on foot. Its charming streets, cafés and boutiques never disappoint. My family loves to ski, and we always enjoy our time in Lake Tahoe, Calif., where my children learned how to snowboard.
