Our experts tackle the cOmmOn cOnundrums surrOunding the big day
Q
When I look back at our wedding, I really want my
husband’s suit to look timeless, but I also want it to feel
current on our big day. How can I find something that’s
both classic and trendy?
I
have good news: when it comes to the
groom’s attire, classic styles are also the
most current trends. For fabrics, mohairs,
linens and Dupioni silks are perfect for the
summer wedding, particularly in tropical
destinations. Darker suitings, woven in
super 150s or silk and wool blends, will have
the soft, luxurious finish with just a hint
of luster for a more formal wedding. For
a more traditional setting, a tone-on-tone
stripe woven into the fabric will provide an
elegant, formal look. The traditional fourin-hand tie is a great choice with the tuxedo,
and whether with a traditional tie or bow tie,
this is the place to accentuate a little more
color for the groom. Be careful that the color
contrast is not too powerful or it may be the
only thing to show up in the photos. A more
subtle contrast will usually yield a more
elegant and formal look.

Q
After thinking about
our invitations, my
fiancé is more inclined
toward something fun
and whimsical, while I would
prefer more of an elegant and
traditional look. What are some
stationery ideas or options that
could help us find a balance?
S
tationery is an important element
of weddings. Not only does it give guests
essential information to help them prepare
for your event, but it also sets the tone. It’s
a chance to leave the first impression, while
creating excitement and anticipation for your
big day. When trying to decide, consider the
role each stationery element should play.
This may be an opportunity to intertwine
your two individual styles. Your save-thedates could be fun and playful, with a whimsical font such as Scriptina and bold paper
colors, while your invitations could be more
traditional with a filigree laser-cut design
with linen or shimmer papers and a more
classic typeface such as Edwardian Script.
Lastly, your thank you notes can be a heartfelt blend of both. You can experiment on
our website, paperorchidstationery.com, by
swapping out colors and adding custom text
to get a preview.
