That’s what it’s all about.” “I hit my three-month anniversary this week, and I’m back to a normal and improved life already.” Both of these quotes are about the same person. The first speaker is surgeon Eric Kortz, M.D., FACS. The second is one of his patients, 34-year-old teleconferencing manager Chris Simmons of Broomfield, Colorado. Simmons fully awoke from his liver transplant operation at Porter Adventist Hospital’s Transplant Center last Christmas morning. Both quotes are true, although Simmons would quibble with Kortz’s definition of skiing. He says he didn’t get back on the expert slopes until eight to 10 weeks after his surgery. But talk about the ultimate Christmas present for Simmons. And talk about a dream come true for Kortz, who is surgical director of liver transplant at the Porter transplant center and founding member of Porter’s Center for Liver Care.
