OPENING THOUGHTS Giving Our Best to the Community a family health maGazine frOm PhelPS COUnty reGiOnal meDiCal Center CeO John R. Senior Vice President/Chief medical Officer Don James, D.O. I PCRMC will always be on the front lines of healthcare and service Vice President/Chief Clinical Officer Wrenae Shabel, Ph.D., R.N. Vice President/Chief financial Officer Ed Clayton Chief information Officer/Chief Security Officer David Dawdy n the wake of healthcare reform, the media often portray the future of healthcare as bleak. Here at Phelps County Regional Medical Center (PCRMC), the exact opposite is happening: We continue to provide compassionate and top-notch health services for our community. We take this responsibility to our patients very seriously; PCRMC is committed to providing you with the best possible treatment and experience while you’re at the hospital. One way we accomplish this goal is by employing the best of the best. New staff physicians Marino Parra, M.D., and Christiane Zoghbi, M.D., typify the physicians we employ: Both are compassionate, experienced, resourceful and always patient-focused. (They also happen to be married to each other!) We’re excited to welcome them to our team. Read more on the next page. Being the best isn’t always exclusively about skill, but can be about a sense of philanthropy and concern for the well-being of our peers—especially in times of dire need. See page 7 to begin reading the inspiring story of the volunteer emergency response team that was deployed to Joplin, Mo., in the aftermath of the tornado. Closer to home, 9-year-old Brenna Heavin combined her entrepreneurial spirit and a love for baking to create hundreds of cupcakes that she sold to raise more than $500 for the Joy of Caring Cancer Fund. Learn more about Brenna and the Joy of Caring fund on page 55. Our employees are the heart of PCRMC, and their drive, work ethic, skill and compassion help ensure that the hospital is always on the front lines of service and community involvement. I am proud to be the CEO of such an organization. Have a safe, happy holiday and a healthy new year!
