But Peggy Davis, Carolyn Goebel and Edward Behling represent the next generation of patients who have had what used to be considered major surgeries but with virtually no incision. Physicians on staff at the hospitals of Community Healthcare System are using new approaches with some surgical procedures to offer a much less invasive experience and quicker recovery. Nabil Shabeeb, M.D., was the first surgeon in the state of Indiana to remove a patient’s gallbladder through a Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) using the newest upgrade of the da Vinci Surgical System. Shabeeb and other Community Healthcare System surgeons have helped to pioneer this technology and also use their expertise in other da Vinci laparoscopic procedures, including general surgeries such as hiatal hernia repair, Heller myotomy, colectomy and splenectomy. 6 Vim & Vigor · FALL 2 012
