That also includes making informed decisions about our health, including preventive and wellness care. Phelps County Regional Medical Center (PCRMC) designed its Silver Eagles program to help local seniors stay informed on the latest health information, make new health skills a priority and improve lifestyle, diet and attitude. “It serves as a holistic approach to senior health and wellness,” says community outreach liaison Carolyn Tilford. “It’s about body, mind and spirit. All of these areas must be addressed for a person to feel vital and healthy.” The free program is for anyone 50 or older in Crawford, Dent, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski and Texas counties and the surrounding areas. Participants receive: • Free information on healthy activity, nutrition, adult immunization, managing stress and aging well • A free subscription to PCRMC’s quarterly Vim & Vigor magazine • A monthly newsletter with tips on healthy aging and upcoming events POINTING THE WAY TO BETTER HEALTH The wellness point system serves as both a motivational tool and record keeper for participants who track exercise, diet and health improvements. Participants log points in a journal, and those who earn 50 points or more in a month receive a prize for meeting their goals. Points can be earned for completing personal exercise, attending bimonthly education events and consuming three to five vegetables each day at least three times a week.
