A Big Reas Area dentists trade teeth-whitening services for donations to fight breast cancer G winnett Medical Center is committed to fighting breast cancer—and with the help of local dentists and the Brighter Smiles for Brighter Futures campaign, GMC continues to provide technologically advanced services to diagnose and treat the disease. The Brighter Smiles for Brighter Futures fundraising campaign is a teeth-whitening program that allows people to make tax-deductible donations to the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation in exchange for professional whitening services. The program, started in 2001 with one dentist, now involves a group of about 50 dental teams, dental specialists and corporate sponsors in the area. One hundred percent of each individual’s donation is given to the Foundation and used to help Gwinnett Medical Center expand and improve its breast cancer services. Since the program’s inception, more than 4,000 local dental patients have participated and $1 million has been raised to fight breast cancer. “We’ve got a great community that has pulled together and made this happen,” says Bruce E. Carter, DMD, founder of the Brighter Smiles for Brighter Futures program.
