AuxiliAry Supporting Healthcare’s Future Auxiliary & Volunteer Services awards scholarships to local students pursuing careers in nursing and allied health P helps County Regional Medical Center (PCRMC) Auxiliary & Volunteer Services (AVS) actively supports the nursing and healthcare professions each year by awarding scholarships to local students. The Auxiliary presented a total of $10,000 in scholarships in December to students in registered nursing (RN), licensed practical nursing (LPN) and allied health. The RN and allied health scholarships were awarded at the Auxiliary’s quarterly luncheon. Juan Martinez received a $2,000 scholarship for allied health careers, while Margo Riddle, Sonya Schubbe and Angela Johnson each received a $2,000 scholarship toward their RN educations. Tina Pridgeon, director of Auxiliary & Volunteer Services; Kathy Nickason, president of the Auxiliary; and Marian Pruitt, second vice president and scholarship committee chair, awarded the scholarships. Scholarship requirements An LPN scholarship was awarded at Rolla Technical Center; Rebecca Aegan received a $2,000 scholarship. AVS will begin taking applications for RN, LPN and allied health scholarships each year at the beginning of the fall semester in August, until a set deadline in October. Applications are available on the PCRMC website and via Human Resources and Auxiliary & Volunteer Services, and the qualifying information is included in the local papers. AVS also mails information packets to all of the surrounding schools so the financial directors are aware of the scholarship opportunities. In November, a panel made up of the AVS board, hospital and medical group employees conducts interviews. The interviews are based on a point system, and by the end of the day scores are tallied and winners are determined. Scholarship recipients are notified of their awards by mail and invited to the AVS quarterly luncheon. The LPN scholarships are awarded in a lamp-lighting ceremony at the Rolla Technical Center. CALL Applicants must be enrolled in an RN, LPN or allied health program to qualify. Scholarships awarded by Auxiliary & Volunteer Services must be used for tuition only; books, fees, etc., are not eligible as tuition costs. The school attended by the scholarship winner must endorse the check as well as the recipient. Applicants already awarded a scholarship are still eligible to win another year as long as they do not reapply for the same type of scholarship. For example, a winner of the LPN scholarship may reapply for an RN scholarship. PCRMC Auxiliary & Volunteer Services awarded one $2,000 scholarship at Rolla Technical Center.
