YOU Can Change the World It starts with advanced health care in your community. Meet three families who give to the GMC Foundation G 52 SPRING 2 014 DONORS: JUANITA AND C.R. MILAM Means: Bequest "I'm not a native, but I'm pretty close," says C.R. Milam. "Most of what I remember from my childhood involves Duluth." C.R. came to Duluth in 1944 at age 7. He left to attend college at North Georgia College & State University, where he graduated and met Juanita. The couple returned to Duluth after he served in the Army and has been here ever since. He worked for Parsons for 25 years, and she worked for Gwinnett County Public Schools for 30 years as a teacher and a counselor. The couple decided to include the GMC Foundation in their will (a bequest) to ensure that GMC-Duluth would continue to provide the same great health care it always has. The Milams have gone to GMC since Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital's early days-C.R. had his tonsils removed in 1946 and their ﬁrst child was born in 1961. "We've been using the hospital since it started," C.R. says. "We've always had good service and wanted to give back to a place that has served us so well throughout our lives. We decided it was important to leave behind a legacy that will mean something to others after we're gone." The Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation offers planned giving opportunities such as including GMC in a will, adding GMC as a beneﬁciary to a retirement account or a life insurance policy, or establishing a charitable trust or endowment in GMC's name. Planned giving comes in many shapes and sizes, and it is an option for everyone. "Contributions play an important role in providing the Foundation the resources required to ensure that GMC continues to serve the community and provide important and innovative health services," says GMC Foundation President Jason Chandler. "The GMC Foundation Legacy Circle honors those choosing to invest in the future of GMC via planned giving options," Chandler adds. "Donors choose this form of giving to provide for the future of health care in our community." Our community helps shape who we are, and for the following donors, it is important to leave a legacy that has a profound effect. Commitments to the future ensure that our community will continue to have hospitals dedicated to transforming healthcare.
