ardiovascular disease and stroke are in the
top five leading causes of death in the nation.
However, through committed changes to lifestyle habits, like healthy eating and exercise,
these statistics can be greatly reduced or even eliminated.
In an effort to promote community awareness about cardiovascular disease and prevention, the American Heart
Association (AHA) and Phelps County Regional Medical
Center's (PCRMC) Heart and Vascular Center teamed
up last October for the first annual Rolla HeartChase at
Ber Juan Park.
What is the aha heartChase?
The American Heart Association's HeartChase is a community outreach event that heightens awareness about
heart health and raises money to support the lifesaving
work of the AHA. The event is community-minded and
designed for teams of two to five players who utilize an
app downloaded to a team member's smartphone to navigate the game's checkpoints or challenges.
The game is set up as an obstacle course and scavenger
hunt where all participating teams compete to uncover

a Community-sponsored event
PCRMC sponsored the first Rolla HeartChase, and
John Denbo, CEO, delivered opening remarks saying:
"My hope is that the Rolla HeartChase will engage our
community in the American Heart Association's and the
PCRMC Heart and Vascular Center's endeavors to build
healthier lives in Phelps County and the surrounding
areas. You may never know how many people will be
positively influenced by your efforts to prevent heart disease and stroke."
Other keynote speakers included Tom Brown, an
employee at Brewer Science in Rolla, and Don Pingleton,
