Delbert Day CanCer InstItute at PCrMC More a than Just Building The new Delbert Day Cancer Institute at PCRMC will be the heart of cancer care in south-central Missouri P By Somer overShon helps County Regional Medical Center (PCRMC) first announced the creation of the Delbert Day Cancer Institute (DDCI) in 2011. The DDCI is an innovative initiative that will continue to enhance PCRMC's existing cancer care services for area patients and their families. The model for the DDCI, originally initiated by a generous pledge from Delbert Day's son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Kim Day, was created as a testament to the already accredited and world-class cancer care services provided at PCRMC. "Naming the institute after Dr. Delbert Day, Professor Emeritus at Missouri University of Science & Technology, was not happenstance," says John Denbo, PCRMC CEO. "Dr. Day embodies the spirit of everything we believe the PCRMC cancer center will encompass: a commitment to academia, including researching treatments for cancer; a commitment to numerous, local civic and community organizations; and a down-to-earth, approachable, compassionate character." Adding Dr. Day's name to the institute helped shape the idea of areas where PCRMC cancer services should advance in the future. "PCRMC has provided 52 world-class cancer care for more than 30 years," says Denbo. "Our organization will continue to provide the best treatments and technology available for our cancer patients. One way we knew we could improve the patient experience was by constructing a building that would centralize all aspects of cancer care under one roof. The new building will allow patients to truly experience the continuity of care that PCRMC continues to provide." According to Denbo, the essence of the DDCI is summed up in two words: patient-centered. "Once constructed, the DDCI will be more than just a building; the facility will represent PCRMC's holistic approach to providing world-class cancer services to our friends and loved ones," Denbo says. The building will be housed on the main campus in Rolla and built off of the north side of the PCRMC Medical Office Building. Why noW?
